Shopping Cart Races Kick-off Capital Food Drive June 12-July 14

Capital's Annual Food Drive (June 12-July 14) raced off to a great start during their 9th Annual Shopping Cart Races held in the Capital parking lot at 855 Eisenhower Drive in Kimberly on Tuesday, June 12. Everyone who attended enjoyed free pizza and beverages while several children ages 4-8 took part in the Kiddie Kart Races.
Eleven teams of employee-racers from Capital and Larry's Piggly Wiggly competed for best costume and then in the Shopping Cart Races, running up and down makeshift grocery aisles to be the first to fill up their carts and cross the finish line. Doug Erickson from 95.9 KISS FM served as emcee for the evening and costume judges included Dan Flannery from The Post-Crescent, Brian Roebke from The Times-Villager, Katie Marx from 101.1 FM WIXX, and Emily Matesic from WBAY TV-2, along with several representatives from area food pantries and animal care associations.
"The Breakfast Pack" team from the Kaukauna Piggly Wiggly swept first place for both the Races and the costume contest, including Stephanie Teteak, Deb Brockman, Laura McMillan, and Melissa Eis. Two Capital teams captured second and third place for best costume: 2nd Place - "Blast Out Hunger" with Sara Massonet, April Vosters, Melissa Quintanilla, and Chris Bouressa; 3rd Place - "Happy to End Hunger" with Alan Zierler, Vicki Running, Kathy Fandrey and Tim Barthel.
Capital's 2012 Food Drive goal is to again collect 4,000 pounds (2 Tons) of food and pet care items to benefit seven area food pantries and three animal care associations. All are welcome and encouraged to take part in this great cause to help feed the hungry and care for animals in our area. Donations of non-perishable food, personal hygiene and cleaning items along with pet food can be dropped off at any Capital office June 12-July 14 during regular business hours.
