Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions Award Scholarships to Youth: Local high school seniors winners of three $1,000 scholarships.
Kimberly, WI — Aubrey Coffey from Little Chute High School, Anna Helein from Appleton East High School and Seth Miller from Weyauwega-Fremont High School were each recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions, a group of 16 credit unions in the great Fox Cities area of Wisconsin. The announcements were made at the Chapter's meeting at the Darboy Club in March.
Aubrey Lynn Coffey - A member of Capital Credit Union, Coffey is a senior at Little Chute High School, and she plans to attend UW-Madison for Business Administration. She is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America where she organized and helped with food drives and adopt-a-family projects. As part of the Little Chute High School Key Club, she also served as traffic director for a local marathon. Active in her community, Coffey mentored an at risk young student at a local middle school for three years and spent countless hours helping with various church/community activities, visiting local nursing homes and volunteering as a worker at Catholic Heart Work Camps in Texas and South Carolina.
Coffey learned how to save and manage her money from a young age. Now, more than ever, she realizes the importance of tracking her finances and putting the financial advice she received from her parents and her credit union to work.
Anna Paige Helein - A member of Community First Credit Union, Helein is an Appleton East High School senior with plans to attend the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota to study Business, International Business, Public Relations and Marketing. A National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member, Helein served as Appleton East Student Council Co-President for four years and is Co-President of the Class of 2010. Helein is a varsity letter winner on the school's volleyball team and the Appleton United Girls Ice Hockey Team; she also played on the school's soccer team and for the Appleton Soccer Club.
Helein has volunteered many hours for several fundraisers and events throughout her high school years including Special Olympics, Harbor House, Salvation Army and, her most rewarding experience, the DECA "Pink Out" basketball game which raised over $2,000 for breast cancer awareness and research. Helein credits her parents as being great financial planning role models, teaching her to separate "needs" from "wants" in life and to manage her money with the help of her credit union, now and in the future.
Seth Miller - A member of Prospera Credit Union, Miller is a senior at Weyauwega-Fremont High School, and he plans to attend Fox Valley Technical College in preparation for a career as a Fire Protection Technician. Part of the Weyauwega-Fremont Service Club, he has volunteered for a variety of service events for the school and the Weyauwega-Fremont communities. Miller has also logged several volunteer hours as a junior firefighter with the Fremont Fire Department, assisting at accident scenes and with fighting house and grass fires. He desires to give back to the Fremont community through his chosen career. "I want to help them out as much as they have helped me," Miller said.
Miller appreciates the many benefits he receives as a credit union member, including low fees, loans to help pay for school, and free electronic services like online banking and e-statements, which save him time and money, now and throughout his lifetime.
