History

1934
September 24, Kimberly Credit Union was incorporated under the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Those eligible consisted of employees of the Kimberly Clark Mill and their families with our office located inside the mill. During the first 20 years, assets grew to $289,000 and membership reached 942.

1964
Assets had grown so dramatically that our Board of Directors decided to move into a new office building on Main St. in Kimberly.

1970
A charter expansion was granted to include all persons employed or residing in Kimberly, Little Chute or Combined Locks.

1975
In March, we moved into a new office on Prospect Street in Kimberly, which remains our corporate office.

1981
Our second office is opened, in Little Chute.

1984
Our third full-service office is opened, in Freedom.

1991
Our fourth location opens, in Kimberly, giving us two offices in that city.

1992
October, our assets surpass $100 million.
A seniors’ program, the Golden Opportunities Club, is introduced.

1994
January, Our charter is expanded to encompass anyone who lives or works in Outagamie, Calumet or Winnebago counties.

1996
March, Board of Directors passed a motion to change the name Kimberly Credit Union to Capital Credit Union.

1997
January, Greenville office is opened.

1998
August, our sixth office is opened in Appleton, on Wisconsin avenue.
Launch of our web site at www.capitalcu.com.

2000
Capital opens two grocery store branches in the Piggly Wiggly stores in Kaukauna and Little Chute.
June, the $200 million asset milestone was achieved.
August, online banking is added to our web site.

2001
Oshkosh office opens marking Capital’s first branching venture outside of Outagamie County.
October,with the cooperation of the Kimberly Area School District, we opened the first Heart of the Valley high school credit union. Although closed to the public, this location allows students and faculty account access and gives us an opportunity to expand current financial education programs.

2002
MEMBERS Financial Services Program is brought in as a means of providing personal financial management services for our growing membership.
Expansion of our Kimberly branch on Eisenhower Drive; the addition houses mortgage processing, marketing and training facilities for both employees and members.

2003
Conversion of our core processing system. Staff spent hundreds of hours in training and preparation.
Mortgage refinancing spikes as rates dipped to a 40 year low.
Capital adds more loan options by adding a first mortgage, fixed rate program and a true ARM program.
Expansion of our charter to include Brown County
Receive a First Place award in our asset category in the Des Jardin Youth Financial Education Award program for our dedication to education.

2004
October, Calumet Street branch in Appleton opens.
Electronic statements, known as E-Statements, are launched.
Bill Pay-24 has its transaction and monthly fees removed.
Named Best Financial Institution in the Fox Valley by readers of the Post-Crescent. We also receive the award for Best Place to Work and Best Mortgage Lender.

2005
Named Best Financial Institution and Best Mortgage Lender in the Fox Valley by readers of the Post-Crescent.
US Paper Mills Credit Union and Tri-City Transportation Credit Union in Neenah vote to merge with Capital; land purchased to build a Capital office in Neenah.
Receive first place awards for Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award and the Des Jardins Youth Financial Education Award.
Employees raise $1,500 to aid Hurricane Katrina victims; funds matched by Capital, along with $10,000 donation totals more than $13,000 raised to help hurricane victims.

2006
Merger of Us Paper Mills and Tri-City Transportation Credit Unions with Capital adds 700 new Capital members.
New Neenah office opens in January.
Receive Community Blood Center’s 2005 Gold Sponsor Award in the Small Business category.
