Capital’s 9th Annual Shopping Cart Races Kick-Off Food Drive – June 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Capital Shopping Cart Races kicks off Food Drive this Tuesday
It’s a spectator sport and everyone is invited to join the fun at Capital Credit Union’s 9th Annual Shopping Cart Races on Tuesday, June 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nine teams from Capital along with two teams from Larry’s Piggly Wiggly will battle for best costume and first place in the races during the evening, and children ages 4-8 will have the chance to take part in Kiddie Races. Mascots “Maximillion” from Capital and “Mr. Pig” from Piggly Wiggly will also be there to cheer on contestants.
All are welcome to attend this FREE event, which includes free food and refreshments in exchange for donations of non-perishable food, personal hygiene and pet care items to help kick off Capital’s Annual Food Drive, June 12 through July 14.
Doug Erickson from 95.9 KISS FM’s popular “Doug and Mary in the Morning” will emcee the event with a live remote from the KISS Kruiser. Costume judges include local celebrities from area newspapers, television and radio stations, along with representatives from area food pantries and animal care associations. All are welcome.
CAPITAL SHOPPING CART RACES SCHEDULE
5:30 p.m. – Free pizza and refreshments in exchange for a donation of food, personal hygiene or pet care item
5:45 p.m. – Registration begins for Kiddie Shopping Cart Races (for kids ages 4-8)
6:00 p.m. – Kiddie Shopping Cart Races begin
6:15 p.m. – Costume parade of race teams before judges’ stand; costume judging by local celebrity judges
6:30 p.m. – Shopping Cart Races begin in Capital’s parking lot; Kiddie Shopping Cart Races continue
6:45 p.m. (time approximate) – Best costume winner awarded after first round of races
7:30 p.m. (time approximate) – Races completed; race winner awarded
Capital Credit Union is proud to support area food pantries and animal care associations while offering this fun event to care for the communities they serve. All cash, food and non-perishable items collected during the event (including the groceries used in the races) will go toward Capital’s Annual Food Drive benefiting these seven area food pantries and three local animal care associations:
